Sell your Gold & Precious Metal

Selling gold by post is the simplest way to turn unwanted jewellery into cash without leaving home. You request a free postal pack, place your items inside, and send it back to us using the Royal Mail Special Delivery label provided. Our valuers weigh and test everything on arrival, then contact you with an offer. There is no travelling, no appointment to book and no negotiating face to face with anyone.

We are a family owned and managed business that has been buying gold for over 35 years, and alongside this postal service we run seven high street stores across the North West and Midlands. Every pack that arrives is assessed by the same experienced valuers, using the same XRF testing equipment, as the items brought into our shops. The valuation is free and there is no obligation to sell. If you decide our offer is not for you, we return your items at our own cost, fully tracked.

Why sell your gold by post?

Selling gold by post means you do not need to travel, take time off work or negotiate face to face with anyone. You request a free pack, put your items inside, and post it back to us using Royal Mail Special Delivery. Our valuers assess everything on arrival and we contact you with an offer.

If you accept, the money is sent by bank transfer. If you turn it down, we return your items to you free of charge, fully tracked. The valuation costs you nothing either way.

We have been buying gold since 1991 as a family owned and managed business, and we also run seven high street stores across the North West and Midlands. Everything that arrives by post is assessed by the same experienced valuers using the same XRF testing equipment we use in store.

How it works

Step 4: We value your items
Our valuers weigh and test everything, then call or email you with a no obligation offer.

Step 5: Get paid
Accept the offer and we send payment by bank transfer, usually the same day and always by the end of the next working day. Decline it and your items come straight back to you, free of charge.

What gold we buy

We buy gold in any condition. Broken, tangled, worn, odd earrings and single links are all worth sending, because we pay on the gold content rather than the appearance.

We accept every carat, including 8ct, 9ct, 10ct, 14ct, 15ct, 18ct, 21ct, 22ct and 24ct, whether hallmarked or unmarked. Items we buy regularly include:

  • Rings, including old wedding and engagement rings
  • Chains, necklaces, bracelets and bangles
  • Earrings, including odd ones and broken pairs
  • Charms, pendants and lockets
  • Brooches, cufflinks and tie pins
  • Watch cases and bracelets
  • Broken and scrap gold of any kind

We also buy silver, platinum and palladium, so if your items are mixed you can send them all in the same pack and we will value each metal separately.

What we cannot accept

To save you the time and postage, these are the items we are unable to buy:

  • Gold plated or gold filled items
  • Rolled gold
  • Costume and fashion jewellery
  • Pearl necklaces and strung pearls
  • Stainless steel, titanium and base metal jewellery

If you are unsure whether something qualifies, look for a hallmark such as 375, 585, 750 or 916, or a stamp reading 9ct, 14ct, 18ct or 22ct. Marks such as GP, GF, RG, EPNS or 1/20 12k indicate plating or filling rather than solid gold. If you are still not certain, contact us and we can advise before you send your items in.

How we value your gold

Two things decide what your gold is worth: how much it weighs and how pure it is.

We weigh your items on calibrated scales and confirm the purity using XRF testing, which reads the exact metal composition without damaging the item. We then calculate your offer as a percentage of the live gold spot price for that weight and purity.

Stones, clasps and non gold components are not gold, so they carry no value in a scrap valuation. If we spot something worth more than its metal content, such as a branded piece or a stone of genuine value, we will tell you rather than simply weighing it in.

You can see current rates on our Today's Prices page.

Your gold is insured in transit

Every pack is sent using Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed, which includes compensation cover up to £750 per parcel.

If you think your items are worth more than £750, please request additional packs and split them so no single parcel holds more than £750 of gold. You can also buy extra cover at your Post Office at your own cost. Full details are on our Insurance Cover page.

Proof of identity

If you send more than £1,000 worth of gold, you may be asked to provide proof of identification before we release payment, so that we can meet our legal obligations. This usually means photo ID and a recent proof of address. We will tell you if it is needed and how to send it securely.

You also need to be 18 or over and have the right to sell the items you send.
